The project "Increasing Women's Participation in Municipal Elections" is ongoing
On January 21, 2025, the next event on the topic "Increasing Women's Participation in Municipal Elections" was held in the Tartar region. The coordinator of the Tartar Women's Resource Center and the representative of the "Coalition for Equal Development" in the Tartar region, Ms. Gumru Shamilova, emphasized that women's active participation is being observed in the political sphere, just as in other fields. She called on women to actively participate in the upcoming municipal elections in our country. Ms. Chichak Alekperova, the secretary of the Election Commission of the 97th Tartar-Aghdara-Goranboy Election District, provided information about the election preparation process and procedures and spoke about the importance of women's active participation in this campaign. Ms. Tunzala Valiyeva, who was elected chairperson of the Tartar City Municipality in 2019, emphasized in her speech the importance of women's active involvement in public and social life. The event also included speeches and suggestions from a group of women entrepreneurs who are members of the Tartar Women's Resource Center. It should be noted that the events are organized in cooperation with the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs, the Central Election Commission, and the "Coalition for Equal Development".
The State Committee will hold the next "Open Door" day in the regions
The State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs will hold the next "Open Door" day in the regions. The "Open Door" day will take place on January 31, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and will be organized by the Committee's Child and Family Support Centers with the participation of psychologists and social workers.
The victims of the January 20 tragedy were commemorated at the Committee
Ms. Bahar Muradova: “We have an obligation to preserve and protect our national consciousness and identity so that future generations can embrace our future.” On January 17, 2025, the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs held a commemorative event for the 35th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy. In her speech, Ms. Bahar Muradova, the chairperson of the State Committee, emphasized that the events of January 20, which left an indelible mark on our collective memory, are a proud and honorable page in our history. She recalled the events of January 20 as a time when our national identity and consciousness were being formed. She honored the memory of the victims of the tragedy and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan's sovereignty, wishing them mercy from Allah. Ms. Muradova highlighted that the National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s statement shortly after the events condemned the use of the army against its own citizens by the Soviet Union and its leadership, calling it a crime against humanity. She noted that the leader's bold communication with the international community revived the spirit of the oppressed people. She also added that after Heydar Aliyev's return to power, decisive steps were taken to secure Azerbaijan’s independence and to politically evaluate the events that occurred during the struggle for independence. The Committee Chairwoman spoke about the purposeful policies of the country’s leader, President Ilham Aliyev, to safeguard national thought and territorial integrity. She emphasized that today, Azerbaijan is a distinguished state in the region and the world, guided by its glorious past, strong present, and future-oriented policies based on unity between the people and the state. She reminded that freedom was obtained at the cost of sacrifices and discussed the reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories. Ms. Bahar Muradova stressed the significance of 2025 being declared the "Constitution and Sovereignty Year" and noted that the Constitution creates a solid legal framework for fulfilling the duties related to a nation’s will, welfare, and state independence. She stated that, as representatives of a state with a proud history that has always overcome challenging times, we must not forget the tragedies of the past and must pass them on to future generations: “We must take this matter seriously to ensure our children and youth grow up with national spirit, are aware of historical and legal processes, and are informed about socio-political developments.” During the event, committee employees shared their memories of that fateful night, reminiscing with sadness. It was highlighted that it was under the leadership of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev that legal recognition was first given to the January 20 events, and only after the confidentiality restrictions were lifted did the full details of the event emerge, showing that it was part of the Soviet Union’s deliberate policy. It was noted that on those days, the unity of the Azerbaijani people triumphed over weapons, and the memory of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for independence and freedom was respectfully honored.
The staff of the State Committee visited the grave of the Great Leader
On the anniversary of the passing of our nation's National Leader, Heydar Aliyev, the staff of the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs visited the Great Leader's grave at the Alley of Honor. Flowers were laid at the monument of the National Leader, and his cherished memory was honored with deep respect. The memory of the prominent ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva was also respectfully commemorated.

Five electronic posters prepared by the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs titled “The Family is a Small State,” “Gender Equality Begins in the Womb,” “Say NO to Domestic Violence,” “Protect Your Reproductive Health,” and “Say NO to Child Marriage” are being regularly displayed on monitors belonging to the “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC. Additionally, educational social videos on themes such as “Our Big Family, Where We Take Shelter Like the Branches of a Sycamore Tree,” “Ecological Awareness Begins with the Family,” “Our Children Are the Greatest Project of Our Lives,” and “Protect Our Gene Pool” have been broadcast to widely disseminate these messages among the public.

As part of the "16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence" campaign, seminars were held in the districts of Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, and Sabirabad. The seminars, conducted by lawyer Abil Bayramov, were attended by teachers from secondary, vocational, and higher education institutions. The purpose of these seminars was to increase awareness and sensitivity regarding gender equality, gender-based violence, domestic violence, and measures to combat it, recognizing the exemplary role teachers play in society. Representatives of the executive authorities of Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, and Sabirabad, as well as coordinators from Women's Resource Centers, also participated in the seminars.
Ms. Bahar Muradova will hold a meeting with citizens
Ms. Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs, will meet with citizens on December 19, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Absheron District (in the city of Khirdalan). During the meeting, the concerns of residents from Absheron and Zangilan districts will be addressed.
A training on "Preventing Domestic Violence" was conducted for members of the monitoring and coordination group working to prevent domestic violence
On December 5, 2024, a training on the prevention of domestic violence was held in Lerik district, organized by the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, for members of the monitoring and coordination group for the prevention of domestic violence established in the Lankaran City Executive Power, Astara, Yardimli, Masalli, Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, Lerik District Executive Powers. Speaking, Sadagat Gahramanova, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee said that when carrying out their activities, the monitoring and coordination groups for the prevention of domestic violence established in district and city executive powers across the republic should be guided by the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the Prevention of Domestic Violence", and measures should be taken to provide more flexible support to victims of violence, issue protection orders, and place victims in shelters if necessary. She stated that the changes made to the Law will have an effective impact on the fight against domestic violence if the responsible persons are familiar with them. Ms. Arzu Valimammedova, Head of the Department of Socio-Political and Humanitarian Issues of the Lerik District Executive Power, informed the participants of the event about the work done in the field of preventing domestic violence. Then, Ms. Vafa Alakbarova, Head of the Domestic Violence Prevention Sector of the Legal Support Department of the State Committee, provided information on the analysis of the response letters received by the State Committee regarding domestic violence, and made recommendations on eliminating shortcomings and taking necessary measures. At the training, Ms. Rahil Suleymanzade, an employee of the Domestic Violence Prevention Sector of the Legal Support Department the State Committee, made a presentation on the activities of monitoring and coordination groups in the field of preventing domestic violence and the measures to be taken at the legal level, and new amendments to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On the Prevention of Domestic Violence”. The training, which continued with an exchange of views and a question-and-answer session, included speeches by the chairmen of the monitoring and coordination groups in the field of prevention of domestic violence. Finally, the participants were presented with educational booklets titled "The Rights of Victims of Domestic Violence". It should be noted that trainings on the prevention of domestic violence will be held continuously in the Balakan, Agstafa and Khizi District Executive Authorities.
