A training on “CEDAW Convention and its Additional Protocol" was held on October 20, 2017, within the framework of the project entitled "Strengthening employment opportunities and professional qualifications of refugees and IDP girls with incomplete education", jointly implemented by the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs (SCFWCA) and UNESCO. The purpose of the training was enlightenment of women in order to prevent discrimination against them. During the training, the participants were informed that the elimination of discrimination against women and ensuring the independence of women and men is one of the key principles of the UN. Once again it was brought to the attention of the participants that the purpose of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women adopted by the UN General Assembly on 18 December 1979 is to ensure that women are indeed freed from all forms of discrimination, give equal opportunities for women to develop and realize themselves.

In addition, training participants were given detailed information about the Additional Protocol on to the Convention which came into force in February 2000, and ratified by the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan in February 2001. Furthermore, the participants were informed that the Additional Protocol would give women the right to appeal to the Committee on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, directly or indirectly about breach of their rights which are envisaged in the Convention. Participants of the training actively participated in the discussions and suggested to conduct regular awareness raising activities in this sphere. Booklets on "Protection of women’s rigths" were distributed to trainees.
