A conference on "Children's information security: a comprehensive approach to the problem" was held

The conference on "Children's information security: a comprehensive approach to the problem" was held under the organization of the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs on October 2,  2023.

Mrs. Bahar Muradova, the Chairperson of the Committee, who delivered the opening speech, said that today is celebrated as the International Day of Non-violence all over the world, and the issue of information security as a direction of the fight against violence against children is in the first place in all societies.

She mentioned as the State Committee, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the Audiovisual Council as the relevant state bodies that supervise the implementation of the Law "On the Protection of Children from Harmful Information" and drew attention to the establishment of the Expert Council including the official representatives of the aforementioned institutions and 3 independent experts in 2021.

Mrs.Bahar Muradova added that the Committee works together with state institutions and private organizations, civil society institutes in this field, implements various projects, organizes training for the purpose of increasing the knowledge and skills of experts, as well as studying international experience, children and the media and publishes various resources on the topic.

She pointed out the importance of information producers and broadcasters to be extremely careful and sensitive to the issue when covering topics involving children. At the end of his speech, the chairman expressed her hope that the discussions to be held will help to expand activities in the mentioned field, as well as to organize consistent and coordinated work.

Mrs. Saadat Yusifova,  Deputy Minister of Culture noted that it is very important to protect children from harmful, manipulative and fake information in the era of infodemic - information abundance of various content. She said that legal and practical measures have been taken by the state in order to protect children and adolescents from increasing threats in the information space, systematic activities have been carried out, and she highly appreciated the activity of the State Committee in this field.

Mr.Fazil Novruzov, chief of staff of the Audiovisual Council, spoke about the importance of conducting coordinated work on security issues in the era of information pollution, as well as the importance of education. Mr. F. Novruzov pointed out that Azerbaijan has a large legislative base in the mentioned field, but at the same time, there is a need for certain improvements.

Mrs. Aynur Sofiyeva Deputy Chairman of the State Committee, spoke about the importance of public support to protect children from dangerous information. She said that the measures to be taken in this area are the first of the basic steps to be taken in order to raise children in a healthy way, an investment in the future.

Later, the presentation of the report on "Research conducted to measure the level of Internet use among children" was held. Mr. Eldar Nagiyev, the head of the Public Union "Supporting the Progress of Youth" made a presentation and drew attention to the information about the analysis.

The conference continued with discussions.
