A training for gender officials was held on the topic "Recommendations of the UN CEDAW Committee: current situation and perspectives towards gender equality"

The State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs organized a training for gender officials on the topic "Recommendations of the UN CEDAW Committee: current situation and perspectives in the direction of gender equality" on June 13, 2023.

Mrs. Sadagat Gahramanova, the deputy chairperson  of the Committee made the opening speech and noted that the training aims to contribute to obtaining more complete information on gender issues in the future.

She drew attention to the information about the measures implemented in our country in the direction of legislation related to ensuring gender equality and that the Committee  gives annually reports to the Milli Majlis on the implementation of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Guarantees of Gender (Men and Women)  Equality",  as well as periodic reports are submitted to the UN Committee "Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women ".

The deputy chairperson  said that in order to analyze the situation related to gender issues in the country, certain ministries, committees and a number of companies have been applied and persons responsible for gender issues have already been appointed in certain state institutions.

Later, Mr. Elgun Safarov, a member of the UN CEDAW Committee, gave a speech and noted the information on stereotypes, selective abortions and cases of discrimination based on gender in the society and emphasized the measures that must be taken to prevent these problems.

Next, Mrs. Khalisa Shahverdiyeva expert on gender and development, leading consultant of the World Bank, made a presentation. She noted important points related to the implementation of the recommendations of the CEDAW Committee. The trainer informed about gender-based violence against women, access to justice, solving the problems of vulnerable women and national mechanisms for improving the situation of women. There was group work in the direction of preparing a possible action concept for the implementation of the relevant recommendations.

Later, Committee representatives, Mrs. Sevil Rasulzadeh and Mr. Gays Agalarov provided information about the rules for using the "genderazerbaijan.com" website, which aims at networking gender-responsible people, and distributed the relevant electronic keys.

Within the framework of the training, the participants were informed about the "Gender Equality" textbook, "Curriculum for Gender Equality in Civil Service" and discussions were held on the topic.

At the end, participants were presented with certificates of participation in the training. It should be noted that the trainings will continue on June 14 and 16.
