31 years have passed since Khojaly genocide, which is the most terrible page of our history where 613 people including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly were mercilessly killed.
The Khojaly massacre, committed as a result of aggressive and conquering policy of Armenia aimed at state independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, went down in history as a tragedy of the 20th century.
At night from 25 to 26 February, 1992 during the attack of Armenian armed forces on Khojaly 8 families were completely annihilated, 25 children lost both parents, 130 children lost one parent.
On the night of the tragedy 1275 peaceful habitants were taken as hostages, 150 persons were missing, 487 habitants were severely wounded.
The fate of 150 hostages, including 68 women and 26 children, is unknown.
The national leader Heydar Aliyev stated about Khojaly genocide: "The Khojaly genocide is a historical crime directed not only against the Azerbaijani people, but also against all humanity, exposing the inner face of Armenian fascism and it should be condemned by the civilized world in accordance with international law."
On February 24, 1994, the Milli Majlis adopted a resolution "On the Day of Khojaly Genocide".
According to the order of the National Leader of Azerbaijan from February 25, 1997 a minute of silence was declared annually on February 26 as a sign of respect to the victims of the Khojaly genocide.
As a result of purposeful work carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the campaign "Justice for Khojaly", the Khojaly genocide was recognized by a number of countries and the tragedy was given an international political assessment.
The Azerbaijani people will never forget the Khojaly tragedy, and the blessed memory of the victims will always live in the memory of the Azerbaijani people.
