On February 22-24, 2022, the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs jointly with the American Councils for International Education and with the support of the Ministry of Education held a 3-day online workshop on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) for school psychologists and students from Baku and Sumgait cities.
The workshop aimed to promote the development of Social-Emotional Learning among Azerbaijani school psychologists and initiate the application of SEL in their schools.
The workshop was led by R. Keeth Matheny, an American award winning teacher and speaker. He is also the founder of SEL Launchpad, an organization that provides SEL professional development all over the US, and has launched SEL programs in over 300 schools.
The online event was attended by officials from the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, Baku and Sumgayit Education Departments, school psychologists, and students. Overall, 70 participants benefited from this reciprocal project.
It should be noted that workshop was initiated by Ms. Zahida Israfilova, an employee of the International Relations and Protocol Services of the State Committee who has participated in the Professional Fellows Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, at the end of which her reciprocal project on "Promoting Social-Emotional Learning among Azerbaijani educators" was selected for implementation in the country.
