According to Article 10 of the Family Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the age of marriage in the Republic of Azerbaijan is 18 years. The marriage age can be reduced by no more than 1 year if there are good reasons.

The State Committee for Family, Women and Children's Affairs pays special attention to raising the level of awareness of adolescents and young people about the negative consequences of early marriage and intermarriage between relatives, and regularly conducts awareness-raising activities in this area.

As a continuation of the work done in this direction, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan approved the "Rules on raising awareness of the negative consequences of early marriage and consanguineous marriage for the purpose of protecting and strengthening the importance of family and marriage among young people" by Resolution No. 213 of June 23, 2020. has been. The draft document was prepared by the State Committee for Family, Women and Children in coordination with the relevant government agencies.

The rules define the principles, means, directions of enlightenment on the negative consequences of early marriage among young people and marriage between relatives, the scope of government agencies carrying out enlightenment and their functions.

For the first time, this document explains the concepts of "early marriage", "marriage between relatives" and "negative consequences of early marriage and marriage between relatives". As a rule, early marriage is a marriage concluded with a person under 18 years of age. In-law marriage is a marriage between grandparents and (or) grandparents.

Paragraph 1.2 of the Rule also discloses the list of government agencies implementing activities in the field of education among young people and their responsibilities:

At the same time, the Committee conducts research and analyzes the negative consequences of early marriage and intermarriage.
