Training on "Prevention of early marriages"

A training on "Prevention of early marriages" was held on October 16, 2017, within the framework of the project entitled "Strengthening employment opportunities and professional qualifications of refugees and IDP girls with incomplete education", jointly implemented by the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs (SCFWCA) and UNESCO. The participants of the training were given detailed information on minimum age limit for women entering into marriage, parental rights and their responsibilities according to the Family Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, penalties according to the Articles on "Forced marriage" (Article 176.1) of the Penal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At the same time, the training participants were provided with information on the family model of Azerbaijan, that has its own values and modernity, the importance of maintainance and transmission of family values to future generation, positive effects of pre-marriage medical examinations, marriage relationships and family psychologist. Such factors as infant and maternal mortality, increased divorce rates, girls' educational opportunities, isolation of early married girls from society, and exposure to more physical and sexual violence of early married girls were brought to the attention of the participants. The aim of the training was to teach international and national mechanisms for the protection of women's and children’s rights and raise awareness among the population on early marriage and its causes. Booklets on "Prevention of early marriages" were distributed to trainees.
