This significant day was established by the Decree of National Leader Heydar Aliyev dated August 9, 2001.
It was recognized that the shift to the Azerbaijani alphabet using Latin script was successfully completed in August 2001. The adoption of this new alphabet was a significant milestone in the social and political development of independent Azerbaijan, as well as in the history of our written culture.
