Information on additions and amendments to legislation in accordance with the Lanzarote Convention

A Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Amendments to the Laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan" was adopted.
In accordance with the Presidential Decree signed on 27 December 2022 to protect children from sexual abuse and sexual violence, relevant legislation has been supplemented and amended.
Additions and amendments cover issues related to preventive measures in national legislation, assistance to victims and obligations arising from civil and criminal law, as well as requirements for professionals working with children, application of criminal law to legal persons, deprivation of parental rights, definition of minors, protection of children.
The document also includes forms and rules for legal assistance to victims, as well as points related to the study of such incidents and awareness-raising activities.
At the same time, a new article was added to the Criminal Code to criminalise sexual harassment of minors on social media, as required by the Convention.
Persons who pursue children for sexual purposes can be sentenced to up to 3 years imprisonment under the article.
It should be noted that the Lanzarote Convention was ratified by our country on the 22nd of October 2019.
