World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is observed every year on July 30th. For the first time, the decision to declare this particular date as an international day to combat human trafficking was made on December 18, 2013 and officially enshrined in the UN General Assembly resolution “Improving the coordination of efforts to combat human trafficking”.
This initiative is mainly aimed at drawing the attention of the general public to the problem of human trafficking and its consequences, the situation of victims of human trafficking and the protection of their rights. World Day is also intended to remind of the importance and necessity of coordinated and consistent action in the fight against this phenomenon, while maintaining fundamental human rights, both at the national and international levels.
A regulatory and legal framework has been created in the republic. Based on the relevant Decree of President Ilham Aliyev, the National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2020-2024 was approved.
Of particular note, hotlines 152 and 562-21-12 also operate to prevent this serious problem and provide assistance to the victims.
