In accordance with the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on September 20, 1993, the 15th of May has been marked annually in Azerbaijan as the "International Day of the Family" since 2008.

The purpose of celebrating this day is to contribute to the development and strengthening of family values in society and to promote them among the younger generation.
