Since 2012, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, in cooperation with the German Cooperation (GIZ), has been implementing a number of projects to increase and strengthen women's participation in public life, as well as to ensure gender-oriented governance in local self-government. .

Within the framework of the Good Governance Program for Local Development in the South Caucasus, Gender Commissions have been established in 15 districts and cities of the country in 2020, and gender commissions are planned to be established in 15 additional municipalities.

In October-November 2021, trainings on the rights and responsibilities of municipalities, gender equality and leadership were launched for the representatives of the Gender Commissions established in the elected municipalities.

On October 20, 2021, training was held for representatives of Gender Commissions established in selected municipalities of Baku and Absheron region. The training was conducted by Tofig Hasanov, Executive Secretary of the National Association of Municipalities of Azerbaijan, who informed the participants about the rights and responsibilities of municipalities, existing problems, solutions and the importance of exchanging experience in this area.
