On September 21, 2021, the Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs Bahar Muradova met with the newly appointed Head of the UN Office in Azerbaijan, Resident Coordinator Vladanka Andreeva.

The purpose of the meeting is to develop bilateral relations between the State Committee and the UN Office in Azerbaijan.

Welcoming the guests, Chairperson of the State Committee Bahar Muradova congratulated Vladanka Andreeva on her new and important post and wished her success in her work. Speaking about the successful results of long-term relations between our country and the UN and its agencies, the chairperson of the Committee expressed confidence that very important work will be done for our country in the field of joint cooperation.

Emphasizing that the UN was the first international organization with which Azerbaijan cooperated after gaining independence, the chairperson said that this organization still played a great role in establishing peace in relations with Armenia. Noting that Armenia did not fulfill its obligations and did not submit mine maps, Bahar Muradova stressed that this seriously hampered the construction work in the liberated territories.

It was noted that Azerbaijan is an effective and useful partner in its relations with all international organizations of which it is a member. There is a serious need for restoration and construction of the former territories. Our state is carrying out this work within its capabilities, and I hope that the UN and its agencies will be very active in this process and will contribute to this work. "

She also suggested the development of new mechanisms to ensure the sustainability of projects implemented in cooperation with the UN, as well as their further expansion.

The head of the UN Office in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva thanked the chairperson of the Committee for the warm welcome. Referring to the fundamental relations of the United Nations with Azerbaijan, which have been formed for many years, he expressed confidence that the joint cooperation will continue successfully for the next five years.

Noting the measures taken by the State Committee in the field of women's economic empowerment, gender equality, especially in the fight against domestic violence, Ms. Andreeva praised the development of cooperation in this area, as well as the UN's work in the liberated territories. He expressed readiness to provide both technical and financial support.

During the meeting, the Framework Document on Cooperation for Sustainable Development was discussed. The framework document sets out a strategic vision and direction for cooperation with the UN Government of Azerbaijan for 2021-2025. The document envisages 4 priority areas for partnership, the fourth of which is aimed at building a "society that empowers women and girls and is based on gender equality."
