On September 14, 2021, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs visited Baku within the framework of the EU-funded Twinning project "Strengthening the capacity of government agencies and local referral mechanisms to ensure the safety and support of victims of domestic violence in Azerbaijan" A meeting was held with a group of experts representing Lithuania and Austria on the project.
Welcoming the guests, the head of the project Sadagat Gahramanova noted the Committee's position on the measures taken to combat domestic violence within the project, as well as issues to be implemented in the future.
Gahramanova added that after a study visit to Lithuania last month, regions have already been identified for the implementation of a number of pilot projects in Azerbaijan. Noting the importance of sociological and psychological work with perpetrators of domestic violence, the deputy chairperson said that at the same time, psychological support should be provided to children suffering from domestic violence.
During the meeting, the experts exchanged views on the topic of domestic violence, shared the experience of Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic and a number of countries in combating domestic violence, and provided information on awareness-raising campaigns.
It should be noted that this expert mission envisages the development of a program to conduct a public awareness campaign in the field of domestic violence.
Then a social video was presented.
The committee staff positively assessed the proposals and thanked them. The meeting continued with discussions.
