Meeting was held with the expert of the UN Agency for Women on gender issues

Mrs. Sadagat Gahramanova, deputy chairperson of The State Committee for Family, Women and Children's Affairs had a meeting with Mrs. Clara Vazla, a gender expert of the United Nations Agency for Women On July 16, 2021.
Welcoming the guests, Mrs. Sadagat Gahramanova gave detailed information about the activities of the State Committee. She noted that the creation of equal opportunities for men and women in all areas, the elimination of gender stereotypes, the improvement of legislation on women's rights, increasing the activity of women in all spheres of society is one of the priorities of state policy.
Mrs. Gahramanova noted that the adoption of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Ensuring Gender Equality in 2006 was one of the important steps are taken to implement women's rights and ensure gender equality.
She added that according to Article 20 of the Law, the State Committee exercising control over ensuring gender equality submits annual information to the Milli Majlis.
Noting that the National Action Plan on Combating Domestic Violence in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2020-2023 was approved by the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated November 27, 2020, the Deputy Chairman stressed that the document is a manifestation of the state's attention to this area.
Mrs.Gahramanova informed about the technical assistance project "Promotion of economic and social participation of women living in rural areas" jointly with the UN Development Program and noted that Women's Resource Centers were established within the project to improve the knowledge and skills of women living in districts and rural areas to increase their activity in all spheres of public life.
It was noted that the National Action Plan on Gender Equality in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2020-2024 and the National Action Plan on the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2020-2023 was submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Mrs. Clara Vaz, UN expert on gender issues highly appreciated the activity of the State Committee. She noted that the position of the Committee and the UN coincide on many levels. Touching upon the peace and security of women, the expert stressed the importance of this area. The sides exchanged views on the active participation of women in socio-political life, their representation in public administration, and economic strengthening.
