Since 2008 every year, in May, the Committee carries out various activities on the occasion of International Family Day (in accordance with the UN General Assembly resolution 20 September 1993). On May 15, 2019, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs jointly with the State Committee for Religious Organizations held a conference entitled "Strengthening family values is the basis of moral health of the society" dedicated to the International Family Day.

         The main purpose of the conference attended by representatives of relevant government agencies, international organizations, scientists and cultural figures and etc is the development of the Azerbaijani family model and the protection of family traditions, the focus of society on family issues, the promotion of our national and spiritual values as well as family values.

         An exhibition of handicrafts of families was held before the conference began. Then the film "State Family Policy" was shown.

         The first part of the event, moderated by Deputy Executive Director of the Fund for Promption of spiritual values Jeyhun Aliyev, was attended by Hijran Huseynova, Chairman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli, deputy, Chairman of the Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs of Milli Majlis Aghiya Nakhchivanli, Chief Advisor to the United Nations Population Fund, Farid Babayev, Deputy Minister of Education, Firudin Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport, Farhad Hajiyev.

         Chairman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs Hijran Huseynova congratulated the families on the occasion of International Family Day. She gave detailed information about the strong family policy of the Azerbaijani state. She noted that historically the family played an important role in our national development, as a protector of the high spiritual values of our people. The commitment of the Azerbaijani people to the historical roots, moral values is a great factor. In a number of international publications, our family model is presented to the community as an exemplary family model. This shows how important our family model is and how valuable it is. Media has also played an important role in the propagation of our exemplary families, and mass media should work to make this propaganda work wider.

         H. Huseynova noted that our Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, who considered national and moral values as the greatest wealth of our people, has repeatedly stated in his speeches that the protection of these values is important: "Our national leader's family policy is being implemented in Azerbaijan purposefully today. President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President, Mehriban Aliyeva, pay great attention to the protection of national and moral values. The President of the country always notes that in the center of our policy is the citizen of Azerbaijan, its interests and welfare. Our state constantly cares about its citizens and sees its social problems as a priority, and purposeful policy is being pursued in this direction. This social and economic development work in our country contributes to the strengthening of the family institution." The chairman of the committee said that we are working hard in the direction of healthy and well-educated families in our country. It is well known that negative trends all over the world has its effect on families. Azerbaijan can not stay away from these processes going on in the global space. There are certain both negative and  positive effects. There are certain problems in Azerbaijan also, and  the basis of state policy is solving these problems.

         Hijran Huseynova noted that the Committee has Children's and Family Support Centers in 11 regions: "We have round tables and meetings in the regions. Of course, issues like family violence, early marriages, and learning dissatisfaction worries us. I think that exemplary families should be presented to the public in order to solve such problems and meetings with intellectuals should be organized. We see that both Mr. President and Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva meet with the people and listen to their problems. This is an example of the state's support for people. "

         Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli spoke about the role of national and religious values in the formation and protection of family values and family institutions in Azerbaijan. He noted that co-operation with religious organizations and communities in organizing awareness raising campaigns among the population on national-spiritual values, women and children's rights in order to strengthen the family institution has its particular importance: “Family model, ethical norms, traditions, Islamic and universal values are protected in our everyday life, and passed to future generations. Religious values play an important role in shaping of family relationships and raising of children. The religious situation and religious tolerance in Azerbaijan, is an example not only for the region, but also on the global scale. Protection of religious freedom in our country attracts attention of international organizations. The atmosphere of tolerance in Azerbaijan is getting stronger and develops. All this is part of state policy. "

         M. Gurbanli called on Azerbaijani families to be protected from alien influences. "Sometimes, predicts that the family institution will be completely disrupted in the future are given. But, of course, this is not the right forecast. Any nation has its own family values. After thousands of years, family values have been formed in Azerbaijan. In Muslim countries, as well as in Azerbaijan, there are few cases of divorce. In Europe, the number of divorces is more than the number of marriages. "

         Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Family, Women and Children Issues, deputy Aqiya Nakhchivanli said that besides protecting our precious wealth as a family, we are enriching the world through the progressive moral values of the world and striving for the upbringing of the younger generation. She noted that the Constitution contained a number of specific provisions on family members 'rights and duties, and noted that, as a result of the adoption of the Family Code in 2000, family members' rights and responsibilities were identified as civil rights.

         The Chief Advisor to the United Nations Population Fund, Farid Babayev, informed the organization about its activities in Azerbaijan and noted that the UN Population Fund is cooperating with the relevant bodies of Azerbaijan in this field and these relations will be further developed. He noted that each nation has its own unique traditions and values: "Family institution is an indispensable value in our society, sacred, one of the major pillars of our national-moral values. Humanism, patriotism, benevolence, courage, charity are the highest qualities in the family. From this point of view, the role of the family is indispensable. "

         Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov said that every family is raising family members of the future, and our goal is to educate our children in recognizing our values. Noting that the social environment played a major role in the formation of a personality with a high culture, it is important that the family has a leading role in this process: "The cultural spirit of the family is shaped by the birth qualities, education, upbringing and creative work, knowledge and spirituality, the love and belief to each other and to people surrounding. The Azerbaijani family should live up to our national traditions, and our children should be brought up in the spirit of our national and spiritual values. Society's development depends heavily on family well-being, family-friendly healthy environment, and family relationships on the basis of high moral values. The family, which has a special role in the progress of society and the state, maintains its integrity. " F.Qurbanov said that the Ministry of Education is implementing the "Friend of the schoolchild" project, and currently it is implemented in 134 school. The state is planning to expand this project.

         Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Farhad Hajiyev talked about the state youth policy and the opportunities created by the state for young families. He said that our young people should use these opportunities and strengthen their moral values: "The consistent and purposeful policy has had a positive impact on the development of the family institution in our country as a whole. Based on our national traditions and moral values, the Azerbaijani family maintains its position as a solid family model. We all know what importance family plays is in the life of every person, society and country. The basis of morality, spirituality and patriotism are founded in the family. A healthy, firm family is a guarantee of the prosperity of every society. Family relationships are one of the important aspects of human life."

         After the speeches, 12 winners of the "Exemplary Handicrafts Works Exhibition" were awarded.

         In the second part of the conference, Deputy Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs Aynur Sofiyeva, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Gunduz Ismayilov, Head of the Department of Philosophy Institute of ANAS, Rena Mirzazade, President of the Azerbaijani Cultural Association "Simurg" Fuad Mammadov made speeches on the impact of modernization and globalization on family institutions, family views in Islam, contemporary family, social networks and moral values, family culture and modernity in Azerbaijan.
