On January 31, 2022, a conference was held on "Women, Peace and Security: The Role of Women in Post-Conflict Reconstruction".

 

The purpose of the event is to create a platform for interaction, exchange of ideas and experiences in this field, discussion of best practices and new ways to promote activities on the agenda of women, peace and security in Azerbaijan.

 

The opening part of the conference, co-organized by the UN Office in Azerbaijan and the Center for International Relations Analysis, was moderated by Mr. Farid Shafiyev, the UN Chairman-in-Office. Mr. Elchin Amirbayov, Assistant to the First Vice President, and Ambassador, Mrs. Bahar Muradova, Chair of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs and Mrs. Hijran Huseynova, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs made welcoming speeches.

 

Mrs. Bahar Muradova, Chair of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs stressed the urgency of the issue, noting that Azerbaijan has always considered the protection of women's rights a priority during and after the conflict. She said that in the current situation, steps should be taken in accordance with new standards and the realities formed by Azerbaijan.

 

It is important to establish children's and women's rehabilitation centers in advance, and the active participation of women in business projects: “Taking into account these issues, the Azerbaijani government is preparing an appropriate National Action Plan for 2022-2026. The State Committee is working on this project, taking into account the recommendations of the relevant UN agencies, and will present it in the near future. In addition, a number of important documents and normative legal acts are being worked on.”

 

Afterward, two-panel discussions were held on "Women's Participation" and "Assistance and Reconstruction". Together with the national and international partners participating in the conference, they exchanged views on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and its four chapters: participation, preventive measures, protection, assistance and recovery.
